Aftercare & Alumni Programs

Recovery doesn't end when treatment does. Join a lifelong community of support through alumni events, continuing education, social activities, and crisis support.

Recovery Is a Lifetime Journey

Treatment provides the tools and foundation for recovery, but lasting success requires ongoing support, community connection, and continued growth. RECO Health alumni programs ensure you're never alone in your recovery journey—no matter how long you've been sober.

Research from the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment demonstrates that alumni program participation correlates with significantly better long-term outcomes. A 2023 study found that individuals who remained engaged with treatment alumni networks for at least one year post-discharge showed 70% higher rates of sustained abstinence compared to those who disengaged immediately after treatment completion.

The power of alumni support lies in community, accountability, and continued learning. Recovery is sustained not through willpower alone, but through connection to others who understand the journey, ongoing application of recovery principles, and a life filled with purpose and meaning beyond simply not using substances.

Alumni Success Stories

Our alumni are building lives beyond their wildest dreams—careers, families, education, service, and purpose.

"I completed residential treatment in 2020, then PHP and IOP. I've stayed connected to alumni meetings ever since. That community kept me accountable through early recovery struggles, celebrated my first year sober, supported me when I went back to college, and cheered when I got my bachelor's degree. I now mentor newer alumni—giving back what was freely given to me."
"After 15 years of opioid addiction and multiple relapses, RECO Health finally got me sober. But it wasn't just the treatment—it was the alumni support after. When I wanted to use at 8 months sober, I called the crisis line and talked to someone who'd been there. At 18 months, I sponsored my first newcomer. At 3 years, I speak at alumni events. Recovery gave me my life back."
"Alumni events saved my recovery. I was isolating, white-knuckling sobriety, scared to leave my apartment. A former roommate from treatment invited me to an alumni beach day. I went reluctantly—and found a sober social life I didn't know was possible. Now I attend every event. My closest friends are all RECO alumni. We do life together, sober."

Developing Your Aftercare Plan

Before you complete treatment, we work with you to create a comprehensive aftercare plan—your roadmap for maintaining recovery.

1. Continuing Care Commitment

Which level of outpatient care will you attend? How frequently? Who is your therapist? When is your first appointment scheduled?

2. 12-Step or Mutual Support Involvement

Which home group(s) will you attend? How many meetings per week? Do you have a sponsor? Working which step?

3. Living Environment

Where will you live? Is it sober and supportive? If sober living, which house? If family, have you prepared them to support your recovery?

4. Work/Education Plan

Are you employed? Returning to school? How will you manage stress? Have you disclosed your recovery needs to access support?

5. Relapse Prevention Strategies

What are your primary triggers? What coping skills will you use? Who is your support network? What's your emergency plan if cravings hit?

6. Sober Social Network

Who are your sober friends? What recovery-focused activities will you engage in? How will you build a fun life without substances?

7. Physical & Mental Health Care

Do you have a primary care doctor? Psychiatrist if needed? Are you continuing MAT? Taking prescribed medications? Attending therapy?

8. Alumni Program Engagement

Will you attend monthly alumni meetings? Which events interest you? Are you open to mentoring or being mentored?

Your Aftercare Plan Is a Living Document

Recovery evolves. What you need at 30 days sober differs from what you need at 2 years. Revisit your aftercare plan regularly—in therapy, with your sponsor, at alumni meetings. Adjust as needed. The goal isn't perfection; it's sustainable recovery that supports a meaningful life.

The Science of Aftercare

Research consistently demonstrates that continuing care significantly improves long-term recovery outcomes:

  • NIDA (2020): Individuals engaged in aftercare for 12+ months show 3x higher rates of sustained abstinence
  • Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment (2022): Alumni program participation reduces relapse risk by 60-70%
  • SAMHSA (2023): Peer support involvement correlates with better employment, housing stability, and quality of life in recovery
  • Addiction (2021): Long-term community support predicts sustained recovery better than treatment intensity alone

The research is clear: treatment gets you sober, but community keeps you sober. Alumni programs provide that critical ongoing community connection.
